TABLESCAPE: Pink Peonies & Roses Tea For Three

Every lady should host a pretty tea party at least once in her life. It allows you to step into the role of one of your favorite Jane Austen heroines....Emma Woodhouse or Elizabeth Bennet....and transport yourself to a more elegant era in history. Dust off that fancy hat, those lace gloves, and that floral dress, all of which have been hiding in that trunk in your attic for years. Dust off those fancy teacups, saucers, and silver spoons. This is a great chance for you to get some use out of them. Invite your friends over for an old-fashioned, good time together.

We love tea parties and recently had the opportunity to invite a dear friend over for a simple afternoon "tea for three" in our porch.

Pink Peonies & Roses Tea For Three

Our Tablescape:

- Pink tablecloth, still brand new in the package, purchased at a thrift store for $2.99.

- White lace runner from Dollarama.

- Dinnerware from Gibson Everyday in a lovely floral pattern featuring lovely shades of pink and green.

- Stainless steel Rabian coffee spoons with rose designs. Our grandmother purchased these from Kmart back in December 1977.

- White Antique Reflections pedestal plate, holding the jam-filled cookies, is from L. Godinger & Co and was purchased at HomeSense for $7.99.

- Pink peonies from of our own garden, displayed in a clear mason jar and an antique, rose-colored depression glass mini pitcher which was found at a local thrift store for only $1.00.

- Roses, also from our garden, were placed in small votive holders which were filled with decorational pink water beads.

- Lantern, in the center of the table, was purchased at Dollarama for $3.00 and was originally black in color. We used acrylic paint to give it a quick white wash to match our porch decor.

- We used pink paper napkins (patterned) from Michel Designs Works for convenience.

- We used a white domed porcelain butter dish from Stokes for the sugar cubes. Sugar cubes are a must-have! A tea party just wouldn't be the same without asking, "One lump of sugar or two?".

- We made sure to have lemon slices on hand, as some guests tend to prefer it as an alternative to milk in their tea. We also provided a variety of teas to choose from - which included our favorites - Twinnings Earl Grey and Lady Grey teas.

- We served strawberry shortcake. The perfect accompaniment for a summertime tea!

- As background music, we listened to the soundtrack from the Miramax Motion Picture, Emma, containing music composed and orchestrated by Rachel Portman. Remember that elegant and light instrumental music (something by Vivaldi, Debussy, or a musical soundtrack from your favorite Jane Austen movie) can help create a pleasant ambiance and a memorable atmosphere.

With very few decorations and little expense, we were able to create a beautiful tablescape that was perfect for tea and chatting.

Bring a little Sweet Delight into your life. Host a tea party this Summer.

FABULOUS FIND: routine. de-odor-cream.

This de-odor-cream from routine. is unlike any other natural deodorant that you will ever try. It is available in two unique formulas, giving you the opportunity to choose between the Clay Formula and the Beeswax Formula. The cream contains no aluminum zirconium, aluminum chlorohydrate, parabens, triclosan, or propylene glycol. It comes in attractive frosted glass jars for a sleek, high-end, natural deodorant experience. We love the fact that there is enough product in each jar to last around 3-6 months with regular use.

We have tried the Beeswax Formula and find that it has a nice texture that actually feels comfortable on your skin. It is not sticky or too moist. It is just right. A pea-sized amount rubbed into the skin on your underarm is all you need. A little goes a long way!

We have found that this de-odor-cream effectively works to keep odors away and keeps us feeling fresh and confident all throughout the day....with appealing scents that last! The "Maggie's Citrus Farm" and "whoa! blackberry betty" scents that we have tried are perfect for Summertime...and all year round!

Creating Your Own Seaside Getaway....At Home

Ways To Create A Relaxing Ocean Retreat Of Your Own

To begin, you will need to find a quiet corner in your home. A porch, a bedroom, or even a bathroom will do just fine. Incorporate as much blue and white as possible. These cool colors promote a relaxed atmosphere and a sense of calm. Fill the air with scents that are reminiscent of the sea - such as the Sea Harbor Tart from Yankee Candle [seen in picture 1 below] or Air Wick Aqua Mist Air Refresher in Fresh Water Scent. These scents will bring a touch of the sea to your space.

Surround yourself with paintings of the sea, white seashells, ocean-inspired soaps - such as Crabtree & Evelyn's Nantucket Soap [seen in picture 2 below] or Cape Shore's Coastal Breeze Soap [seen in picture 3 below], lighthouse decor, or seagull ornaments. Fluffy white towels are a great addition to your at-home seaside spa retreat.

Even if you live miles away from the sea, you can still enjoy the soothing sounds of the waves and the feeling of a seaside vacation by listening to CD's - such as Solitudes "Seaside Solo Piano" or Reflections Of Nature "Rest & Relaxation". We highly recommend these CD's, as they are among our favorites. They are a combination of natural ocean sounds and peaceful music that will lull you into a state of relaxed bliss and instantly transport you to that beautiful beach of your dreams.

It only takes a few minutes to create a seaside getaway in your home using ordinary everyday items. Rest. Relax. Enjoy.
